StratoStar SHARE Video

This video is from a StratoStar Mission. We use the Student High-Altitude Research (SHARE) Capsules to hold the student 40g projects. One of the SHARE Capsules goes up on the balloon, and the other "control" capsule stays on the ground. After the mission is complete, the flight and control capsules are brought back together for the students to start their analysis.

Testable questions from middle schoolers
for StratoStar experiments

  • What happens to glue in high altitude?
  • How does altitude affect the density of the marshmallow?
  • How will the decreased air pressure of space affect the properties of oobleck?
  • How does experiencing drastic changes in temperature and radiation affect a chia seed’s ability to grow?
  • Will the speed of the SD card decrease or become corrupted, and what will happen to the SD card’s data after the mission?
  •  How does the altitude, radiation(UV Rays), and temperature affect bacteria reproduction ability?
  • How does 3-D filament change in space?
  • What will happen to popcorn kernels as it rises in the atmosphere?
  • What effect will this balloon launch have on the soil?
  • What happens to film when it reaches the stratosphere?
  • Will the lack of temperature and lack of pressure change the acidity in the vinegar?
